The Lord Of The Flies
by William Golding

View in Library Catalog

The Lord of the Flies is a 1954 novel written by William Golding. The story focuses on a group of British boys who were stranded on a deserted island and their goal of commanding themselves. Ralph, a 12 year old boy, becomes the leader and explains his idea of creating a smoke signal and also decides on creating smaller sub groups. The hunter sub group became obsessed with killing sows and slowly became more savage towards the wildlife. One of the boys began to experience delusions which caused him to be killed by the hunters. The hunter group becomes more savage and attempts to kill the other boys who aren’t a part of their sub-group. However, before they were able to kill anyone else, a British soldier arrived to save them. The Lord of the Flies is an interesting novel that highlights the savagery of humans in dire situations.

A Good Day For A Hat

Fun book to read with kids who are learning to read. Makes great use of simple rhyming words and repetition, and can lend itself well to conversations about the weather, friendship, and being prepared. My niece and nephew enjoyed picking which was their favorite hat and deciding when and where they would wear it best.

Super Fake Love Song is a romance novel written by David Yoon. Sunny Dae and his two best friends were self-declared nerds. When he finds his new neighbor, Cirrus Soh, confident and cool, he gives her the impression that he is in a rock band when she mistakens his brother’s, Gray, rock-themed bedroom as Sunny’s. In a blink of an eye, Sunny is stuck in a pool of lies and begs his two best friends to create a fake rock band with him. They fully act out the lie, which slowly gives them recognition with Cirrus and with the rest of their high school. However, things begin to go downhill and all his lies finally catch up to him. Super Fake Love Song is a relatable teen book which has humor, romance and teaches valuable lessons. I definitely recommend this book to people who enjoy reading romantic and humorful books.

Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki And His Years Of Pilgrimage

I loved this book even more after I finished reading and starting conjuring some theories on what the ending meant. It's a simple story, but true to Murakami's storytelling style, there's much more to unravel even after the book is over.

Throne Of Glass

Her name is so notorious that people speak of her in whispers. Her deeds are so heinous that no one feels safe until she is locked in Endovier - the most secure slave camp. Her history is so twisted and violent that it has been buried too deep for anyone to find. Celaena Sardothien is the most renowned assassin in Adarlan, which is why when the king hosts a competition to pick his new champion, she’s one of the top candidates. Free of chains for the first time in months, Celaena has the opportunity to never return to Endovier again. However, her path takes a sharp turn when her competitors begin to drop dead from inexplicable wounds. And it’s only a matter of time before she meets the same fate. This novel is a retelling of Cinderella and I enjoyed the darker spin on the tale. I think people would like this book because of the main protagonist’s personality and the high-stakes adventure that she goes on.

I liked how we were able to learn more about the characters in this book! It was also really cool finding out about the heir of Slytherin. I sort of guessed part-way that it would be Voldemort, although he is only there in his spirit and not with a host/body.
